Too many times poker is associated with men. However, along comes a woman like Leo Margets and she becomes a super force for all women in the poker industry.

Humble Beginnings

Leo Margets is a Barcelona born Spaniard who was first introduced to the game of poker by her boyfriend back in 2007. However, since then she has flown through the rankings and managed to achieve an impressive amount of final table finishes that has seen her earn her place on poker’s most prestigious team roster and has seen her win a vast amount of money to reflect this.  Leo Margets is a new addition to the PokerStars Team Pro Roster and is now an instantly recognisable face on the scene. With a 27th place finish in the 2009 WSOP Main Event, she garnered media attention and money worth $352,832. She cemented her reputation with wins at the Full Tilt Master Series, The Spanish Poker Tour Grand Finale Invitational and also the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo Casino EPT Grand Final Ladies Event, where she secured the title of the champion.

Poker Tournaments:

Leo Margets began her professional poker tournament career way back in 2008 when she entered the Ill Campeonato de Espana de Poker 2008 in Sevilla. Here she placed a very creditable 9th and walked away with $2,271 prize money. This was followed up in April of 2009 when she joined the 2009 Spanish Poker Tour and came 2nd, winning $3,571.

The success saw her become more of a regular on the scene, and it was later that year, in July 2009, when she joined the 40th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, came 27th and won an incredible $352,832. In total that year she walked away from the poker tables with an impressive $372,993 winnings.

Since her start in 2008, Margets has played in just under 60 poker tournaments, amassing a total bankroll of $1,014,352.

A Success Story

It is hard to deny that the story of Leo Margets in poker is one of success. She has made a fortune on the poker tables and is continuing to do so. But was that her intention when she started to try out the game over ten years ago?

Leo Margets never went into the game with goals set that high. In fact she has been quoted as saying:

“I don’t think you should set your poker goals in terms of results. Results should be a consequence of other more realistic goals.”

To Leo Margets, it was all about the little steps, making small and achievable goals which would lead her on the way to overall success. In fact, it started out that her first goal wasn’t to hit the big money, but just to get better every day, learn the game, evolve with the game and develop as a player. It was setting these smaller goals that led her to a winning path. Not only has this made her a millionaire, but she is also a member of the number one company in the world.

It would seem that her success is in part, thanks to the introduction to poker by her boyfriend. Before this, she hadn’t even considered the game. It was simply another table game that never interested her. However, after her initial introduction to the game that she became aware that it was more than that. She came to the understanding that if you work at it, you could get the edge over your competitors and win. It was this that made her pursue the game to such a level. After joining the tournaments she soon fell in love with the format of the tournaments, which appealed to her competitive nature and soon realised that this was a game that would change her life. She wasn’t wrong.

A Winning Formula

Leo Margets is no longer alone in the poker world. Not only is she a part of the biggest global poker team, but she is also being sponsored by one of the biggest betting companies in the world, 888, who sponsors top sports people and gaming events such as the Amsterdam Conference. When it comes to women in poker, Leo Margets is a shining light.
