Congratulations to Luke “FullFlush1” Schwartz. He binked $130,717.53 after making a 4-way deal and then going on to win the Sunday Million.

For those of you who don’t know, the Sunday Million is the biggest weekly online poker tournament held on PokerStars. You must put up a $215 buy-in to take part, but that does not stop many thousands of players chasing the online poker dream each week. If you manage to have a deep run in the tournament, you can earn life-changing money with the first prize usually being well over $100,000.

This week 4,820 players bought in directly or won a satellite to get a seat, creating a prize pool of $1.2 million after 1,210 re-bought after busting their initial stacks. This led to 900 players cashing. The initial first prize before the chop was a tasty $182,432.60. With a nice exchange rate from dollars to pounds for Schwartz and UK gambling winnings being tax free, it was a pretty good week for him to bink the Sunday Million!

Luke commented on his win via his twitter account __fullflush1__ where he has 8300 followers. He had apparently bet big on France to win the Euro 2016 final and was reeling from Portugal winning after extra-time. However, the sting was removed as he, in his own words, “animaled the Sunday Million” . I am sure the $130k win more than made up for any sports betting loss and is a timely boost to any bankroll.

Whilst it is always great to see an unknown amateur win such life-changing money it is equally nice to see a big-name pro like Luke Schwartz win the event too as it reminds us that, even in a huge field, the cream can rise to the top and having skill in poker really matters. He has been in great form winning three SCOOP events in the last two years, so whilst his TV appearances have dried up a little, he has remained active and successful at the poker tables. Out of sight can lead us to think of a player as out of mind, but this does not apply to Luke!

With such huge money on the line, the poker play is always interesting but the table chat was just as dramatic. Once play got down to the final few players, Luke was keen to discuss a deal noting that the players had between 10 and 20 big blinds left and he viewed this as a crapshoot and wanted to secure the best payout possible. Known for his volatile and abrasive behaviour on and off the table, Luke was forthright in his table chat as negotiations began on the chop, but began to linger as players angled for the best deal. (Bad grammar alert!)

Stoooookie!: k its clear this isent getting done

Stoooookie!: eeveryone asking for more

lb6121: im not

lb6121: and im the best player and the richest

b6121: we are playing 10 big blind poker stookie

lb6121: lets all take icm

lb6121: and play for the 20k

Eventually a chop was agreed and Luke went on to win, beating ‘Stoooookie!’ heads-up when Stoooookie!’s shove with K 3 on a K T 2 board walked into Luke’s limped pocket Aces. The turn and river did not improve Stoooookie!’s K 3 so Luke won the tournament. It is FullFlush’s second significant Sunday Million score as he finished fourth in 2007 but had negotiated the best deal in a chop beforehand and took home $158,000. This was when the buy-in to the Million was $530 and it was held on a monthly basis rather than every week.
