Topping 37 entrants in the PokerGo Tour $50K buy-in Main Event for a $666,000 prize earlier this month propelled Martin Zamani to win the US Poker Open championship – and a $50,000 bonus.

It was Zamani’s fourth cash in the series that included a 3rd place finish in a $15K Pot Limit Omaha tourney good for $130,200 in prize money. His lifetime tournament winnings now stand at more than $4.3 million.

While being interviewed during a break at the US Poker Open Main Event and asked about his success on the felt, Zamani was a man of few words:

After being presented with the Golden Eagle trophies and joining previous U.S. Poker Open champions Stephen Chidwick, David Peters and Sean Winter, Zamani was interviewed again. He was short on words a second time, but managed to double his output compared to the previous interview.

“Got lucky,” was Zamani’s reply when asked how he was able to stave off Nick Petrangelo, who claimed $444,000 in second place money.

Queried as to where he might display his new trophies, one for winning the Main Event and another for the overall championship, Zamani simply said, “No idea.”

Below is a clip of the final hand played. After Zamani relishes his title, it’s likely on to the next “high” roller tournament.
