There have been quite a few memorable locations for big poker events, but there will be few that can compete with the iconic Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro, which is set to host the partypokerLIVE WSOP Circuit Brazil festival next month, with over $1million in guaranteed prizemoney on offer for the Main Event …

The Copacabana Palace Hotel, a mere stones-throw from the world-famous Copacabana beach, will see Brazil’s finest battling it out with rivals from across South America, as well as the expected visitors taking advantage of the amazing location close to the commercial centre and Ipanema district in the heart of Rio.

Canada’s partypoker-sponsored pro Kristen Bicknell was the only ‘foreigner’ to make a deep run in last year’s Main Event, finishing 7th behind winner Andrew ‘Zeus’ Kuster, who walked off with his one and only score to-date of $172,398, with well-known ambassador’s Sam Trickett, Jose Simao and others left trailing in his wake.

That was in Sao Paolo, however, and this year’s Rio extravaganza could well be even bigger and better given the choice of the Copacabana.

Running from September 25th to October 2nd a quick glance at partypoker’s site sees some special PP LIVE DOLLARS extras to sweeten the pot… the in-house currency being pushed pretty hard by the partypoker crew, now under the guidance of the legendary Mike Sexton as Chairman.

Here’s a quick rundown for anyone planning a poker-focused visit to Brazil...

$500 cash for the first 100…

To begin with, the first 100 players to buy into WSOP-C Rio using their PP LIVE Dollars will receive $500 in cash towards their expenses – a few cocktails on the Copacabana beach perhaps high on the bucket-list?

Guess the number…

There’s also the added bonus of 1000 PP LIVE DOLLARS for the person who correctly guesses the number entries for the Main Event, a direct steal from the popular Vegas WSOP Main Event and a fun one at that.

Special hotel rate for players

Partypoker have also negotiated a special price for those who fancy the Copacabana Palace experience, and you can check out their promo pages for details.

The full schedule for the WSOP-C Rio is still to be finalised, but there is a guaranteed $2million+ spread across the ring events, with seniors, ladies, PLO, 6-max, 8-game and Super High Rollers all included – as well as the Main Event of course, which starts on the 23rd and sees a $1,052 (R$4,000) buy-in.

With a full complement of side events expected – and the complete Rio experience on your doorstep – it could well prove to be another successful outing for the partypoker LIVE crew, and PokerTube will be bringing you all the best of the action and results as they happen.
