partypoker have just announced a major software update coming next month that will require players to change their online poker usernames – and the site have launched a $500k giveaway dubbed the Alias Race to get players thinking about their new nicknames!

Creating a Safe Environment

It’s the first step in a drive to prevent third-party tracking tools from working on the site, with partypoker managing director, Tom Waters, states that:

"The update is one of a number of initiatives that we are working on in order to provide players with a safe environment where they can play online poker."

Due to be released at 09:00 BST (10:00 CET) on June 17, 2019, Waters describes the update as:

“Making changes to our software that will prevent third-party tracking tools from working. We want our players to have a fresh start and therefore we are asking all players to select a new alias so that all third-party tool tracking is lost for all our players. At the same time, we have some great promotions running and I’m sure there will be a mad rush by players eager to secure their preferred screen name!”

The $500k Alias Race

For those unsure about such a big change, partypoker’s Alias Race approach looks likely to persuade them quite easily - $500,000 handed out in a 3-part, 24-hour window of opportunity not to be missed.

  • ‘Login Click Cards’ will award random prizes worth up to $10,000 in cash to players after choosing their new alias,
  • ‘Hourly Click Cards’ worth between $10,000 and $40,000 for earning at least 0.10 in loyalty points per hour.
  • ‘$10K Freerolls’ are scheduled to run exclusively for players who earn qualifying tickets via either the ‘Login’ or ‘Hourly’ Click Card offers.

Open to real money accounts only, the Czech republic and Sweden aren’t included in partypoker’s dotcom giveaway, but partypoker players in Czech Republic (that includes your writer – new name suggestions welcome!) can claim a shared $25,000 in prizes through their own dedicated version of the Race to Alias campaign.

partypoker Player Panel member Patrick Leonard said of the new name plans:

“I am excited at all the changes partypoker has scheduled as part of the company’s next software update, and I encourage everyone to log in and update their player name on June 17 to take advantage of the huge $500,000 giveaway!”

How will the name-change work?

Starting from 09:00 BST (10:00 CET) on June 17, 2019, players logging in to their partypoker client will be presented with a pop-up window prompting them to select a new alias.

Player names are subject to the site’s usual rules about ‘appropriate language’, with certain words and phrases blocked, and will be available on a first come, first served basis.

The software changes follow the recent introduction of a redesigned hand replayer along with a simplified dashboard, the optimised controls making for a smoother playing experience, and further announcements are expected in the near future.
