The origin of the phrase ‘Give the people what they want!’ may be lost in the sands of time, but partypoker haven’t forgotten the importance of it, this week launching their SHORTDECK variant of Texas Hold’em

Also known as Six Plus Hold’em, the 36-card variant has risen from obscurity to mainstream poker prominence over the past couple of years, the biggest names in the game singing its praises, including Team partypoker’s Jason Koon – the winningest Short Deck player in the world.

Koon explained:

“When I first heard of Short Deck, a few of my Asian friends were buzzing about how much fun the game was. A few months later I gave it a try and instantly took a liking to it. I am thrilled that I finally get to play one of my favourite versions of poker on partypoker. I hope you gals and guys love it as much as I do!”

The partypoker version of the game, currently available in BETA mode, has an interesting twist too, with ‘every player to place an ante pre-flop’ – the result being bigger pots than in traditional Texas Hold’em. This follows the Triton Poker lead, the same ‘Ante-only’ approach used in their Super High Roller Series’ that Koon is leading moneywinner in.

With the 2, 3, 4 and 5 cards all taken out of the deck, it means the game becomes an action-packed thrill-ride, one where aces can be high or low, and where big hands – meaning huge pots – abound.

Koon’s partypoker teammate, Timofey ‘trueteller’ Kuznetsov, also chimed in on the recent release of the partypoker SHORTDECK option.

“Short Deck is the most action-packed poker game out there! Enough of boring waiting and folding, here you can play half the cards dealt in a cash game and still do just fine.”

Kuznetsov, fresh from a Short Deck High Roller win in Jeju, South Korea, added:

“I’m a big fan of the format (my ante is posted even while writing this), and can’t wait to play my first hand on partypoker. See you at the tables!”

Some things You Need to know about partypoker SHORTDECK…

The hand rankings mean that a regular flush beat a full house! Both partypoker and Triton follow the same rankings, unlike other sites and live tournaments.

On partypoker, SHORTDECK players have the option to remove chips from the table once their stack reaches a certain size, but can also continue to play at that same table!

SHORTDECK has its own quick lobby in the partypoker client, but can also be found within the main cash game lobby!

So, if you’ve heard of the game but haven’t had a chance to try it yet, check out partypoker here for more information.
