What started seven days ago culminated in a six-handed final table yesterday, as the Main Event of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure finally crowned its champion. When the all the cards had been dealt, it was Kevin Schulz who took home the top prize of almost $1.5 million.

Kevin came into the final day trailing the chip leader, Chance Kornuth, by more than 1.7 million, but what he lacked in chips he more than made up for in momentum, which was entirely on his side from the very first moment that cards flew in the air yesterday.

Rami Boukai was one of three U.S. players to start the day, and did so with a short stack of ten blinds. It was make or break time for the American and he was all too happy to get his chips in the middle when he looked down to find pocket Treys under the gun. However, he was looked up by Niklas Hamblitzer holding aq . An Ace on the flop shipped the pot the German’s way, while Boukai had to be satisfied with sixth place and $285,740.

Argentinean Juan Martin Pastor is a young, upcoming player of only 22, but he’s already had some very admirable results, including an LAPT final table and achieving Super Nova Elite status on PokerStars. He could go no further than fifth at the Main Event in the Bahamas, but that finish and the prize of $380,720 reconfirms his status as a player with a bright future.

The only German representative at the table, Niklas Hamblitzer, who was constantly referred to as Hamburger in the live commentary by PokerStars Team Pro Fatima Moreira de Melo (despite the fact that Hamblitzer’s city of birth, Bonn, is 450km from Hamburg), would go next. First, he lost a big hand to Kornuth when he made the call with kj and couldn’t outrun Chance’s a7 . He proceeded to lose the rest of his stack to the eventual winner, Kevin Schulz. For his efforts in the Bahamas, Hamburg… Hamblitzer took home $482,820.

Chance Kornuth started the day a big chip leader, but sometimes things just take a wrong direction at the poker table. Hand after hand, Kornuth’s chances of running away with the title were growing slimmer and when the German was eliminated, Chance was once again the short stack at the table. His run was ended by Schulz, who, once again, found himself dominated by a bigger Ace and somehow found a way to send Kornuth to the rail by the river. Still, a consolation prize of $641,140 will probably help ease the pain.

And then there were two – Diego Ventura of Peru was facing Kevin Schulz of the U.S. Kevin started the heads-up battle in strong fashion, having a four-to-one chip lead that he clearly intended to put to good use. The Peruvian, however, was going nowhere and fought back real hard.

The action culminated when Ventura decided it was a good time to bluff with the board reading 46qk6 . Schulz went for a small value bet on the river, but Diego moved all-in over the top (with a mere pair of Fours) and sent Kevin to the tank.

I’m pretty happy… I Felt good at the table, I had some pretty good reads on everybody, but you never know what’s going to happen." Kevin Schulz, PokerStars blog;

It took a while for the American to decipher this one, but when he eventually did, he announced a call that ended the tournament. Schulz moved past the last obstacle to claim the title, the first place prize of $1,491,580, and a beautiful trophy that will certainly find a fine place in his home as a constant reminder of his big day at the 2015 PCA.
