Poker Princess Molly Bloom Has a New Game, and a New Daughter3 months ago
She's a legend in the world of poker as the host of high stakes games for the glitterati, penning the novel "Molly's Game" that became an Oscar-nominated film, and now Molly Bloom is back hosting a new game of poker that was held in Barcelona, Spain.
Molly wasn't pocketing the rake in the action at the SBC Summit Barcelona, she was one of the players in the invite-only event. Molly's new game, appropriately dubbed “Molly’s Barcelona Game,” was a part of a gaming conference that attracted thousands of industry executives and operators.
As most everybody is aware, Molly's story includes hosting high stakes poker action for the likes of Hollywood A-listers such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck and Tobey Maguire. It also includes an arrest for operating an illegal gambling enterprise, to which Molly was able to plead guilty to a lesser charge in exchange for probation, a stiff fine, and community service.
What many people may not realize is that Bloom's story also now includes baby bottles, changing diapers and sleep deprivation. Molly became a mom earlier this year -- at 44 years of age -- after a long and difficult process of in vitro fertilization.
Bloom told People Magazine that following her arrest she was deeply in debt and had some addiction issues that needed to be addressed. Those problems are apparently behind her now as she and husband Devin Effinger welcomed a daughter, Fiona, to the world on Feb. 8.
A former world class skier and currently an in-demand public speaker, Molly's life has seemingly gone full circle to include that of wife and mother. But it's the story in the middle about high stakes card games for the rich and famous that will forever be a part of poker folklore.
