Scott Harmier, a 42-year-old man from Vancouver, Washington, USA,has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for stabbing four of his fellow poker players in an unprovoked attack inside the Last Frontier cardroom last December.
Guilty Plea Staves Off Life Sentence
On September 8, Harmier was sentenced in Clark County Superior Court after pleading guilty to four offenses. Facing a life sentence, Harmier had been stewing in his cell, unable to come up with the $1.5 million, and so agreed to a plea deal.
Judge David E. Gregerson agreed with the lawyers and Harmier avoided the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison.
The incident occurred on December 13, 2022, at the Last Frontier Casino in La Center, Washington. Harmier took a large knife out while at a poker table and repeatedly stabbed the man seated next to him.
He then attacked a number of bystanders who attempted to intervene. In total, four victims needed hospital treatment following the attack. No motive has ever been revealed but media reported that Harmier has an extensive criminal history.
