PokerStars Hacks Away at Reward Points for MTTs

Only one month into 2019 PokerStars has taken the decision to chop the number of reward points players get from MTTs.

“The first change will be implemented on Friday, February 15, when the reward point earning rate for scheduled tournaments will change from 100 reward points for every $/€1 in tournament fees paid to 45 reward points."

So, more than a 50% reduction in a reward system that has already been hacked to pieces. As online tournament legend Bryan Paris pointed out it’s not actually that much of a cut…

Using the usual excuse Severin Rasset resorted to the defence of:

“This is a reduction in the overall amount of rewards some players will receive, but made in an area that we believe will have the least impact on their experience and enable us to place even more focus where we know it matters most.”

In other words, It’s up to us and we’ll take what we want. All the other formats were left untouched.

What Else?

In a move designed to reduce the ridiculousness of the reward chests, the frequency at which they are handed out will reduce by a factor of three and the reward inside will increase by the same.

The boost feature looks set to vanish with the “majority” of the value being placed inside the chest. Majority being the key word here…

How we upgrade the chest will also change. Now it will be 10 chests in a 28-day period. We will also be able to exchange the value of an uncompleted chest for an immediate reward, although, as expected these days, it’s unlikely to be a +EV transaction.
