In a move that looks more child-like than business-like, the much maligned Red Rock Casino has cancelled the Bad Beat Jackpot which turned out to be a PR disaster. The Las Vegas casino group Station Casinos has removed the promotion from all of their businesses.

Petulant

The Jumbo Hold’Em Poker Progressive Jackpot promotion was one of the most popular you could find in a casino. If the qualifying hand of aces full of jacks was beaten then players not only at the table, but in fact those in every Station Casino would receive a prize.

In July 2017, 83-year-old Avi Shamir thought he was certain to take down this hand in question, as he was holding a straight flush. Perfectly reasonable. The unlikely problem he was faced with was that one of his opponents held an even bigger straight flush. The initial shock would have obviously turned to joy as Shamir would soon be informed that he was to receive around $60,000 for setting off the jackpot. Len Schreter was to collect $30,000, with more than 80 other players dotted around Station Casinos in line for at least $565.

The story turned sour after Schreter exposed his hole cards out of turn during the river action. The greedy casino bosses saw an opportunity to save some money and attempted to weasel their way out of paying. There was no moral reason to refuse to pay at all.

In the end some of the players involved took the case to the Nevada Gaming Control Board and asked for arbitration, which in February 2018 they received in their favour.

Now Station Casinos are behaving like a spoiled child and taking their toys home in protest. These offers are what drives people back day-after-day to their favourite casinos, and now because they didn’t get their own way they’re pulling the plug. Reports now say player numbers are dropping rapidly at the Red Rock.

One place they won’t be dropping anytime soon is at the Motor City Casino in Detroit where $1 million was won in a Bad Beat Jackpot in January 2018!

Not All Casinos Are the Same!

While many casinos around the world act as if they don’t care if you return or not, the online casino industry takes a difference stance.
