Earlier this month, Russian online grinder Roman ‘Trogvar’ Khlan claimed the Road to Team PKR Pro championship and won a 6-month contract worth $5,000.
PKR made Khlan’s Team Pro status official yesterday by welcoming the 32-year-old online grinder. A native of Arkhangelsk in Northern Russia, Khlan now has half a year to represent the PKR blue and will do so in upcoming live events.
“I started playing poker in 2009, and I’ve been a pro for the last two years,” Khlan said. “As a Team Pro, I’ll try to improve on my previous live results.”
Those results include cashes in five live events in 2012-13, the most recent being a fifth place finish in €150 No Limit Hold’em at the Prague Poker Festival in December. The buy-ins for all five of those events were on the low end, but Khlan can now perhaps step up in class since winning the Road to Team PKR Pro title.
“Reaching some final tables would be nice, of course I want to win – everyone does – but no one can turn off variance,” said the realistic Russian. “Success in live events is a long term goal. But I’m ready to start work!”
Live events on Khlan’s agenda include the PKR Live Cannes in October, Unibet Open in November, and the Prague Poker Festival in December. But don’t expect ‘Trogvar’ to completely abandon his online game. Look for him at the tables at PKR.com as well.
