The reigning WSOP Main Event champ, Ryan Riess, recently appeared on "Street Signs" on CNBC and informed the public that his $8.3 million payday was slashed to $2 million after expenses and taxes.
The 24-year-old didn't divulge how much action he sold in the Main Event, as his interviewers concentrated mostly on questions pertaining to recent investments. Riess obliged by explaining that much of the wealth obtained from last year's victory has been placed into the stock market.
Fans of Riess who may want to align themselves with his stock portfolio can do so by grabbing a few shares of Disney, Apple, Facebook and Union Pacific. While the champ didn't reveal his secrets regarding making his choices in the stock market, he did let on that a lot of thought and analysis goes into his selections.
It's all independent research," Riess said. "I have really smart people I am talking to constantly and getting advice on what stocks to possibly jump into or what stocks to sell."
Days as Reigning Champ are Numbered
Next week, Riess will lose his status as the newest WSOP ME champion. A winner in the 2014 WSOP Main Event will be determined on Tuesday, November 11 at the Rio in Las Vegas.
For those wondering how Riess has fared since winning the most coveted championship in poker, his latest score was $13,147 for finishing 39th at the WPT Borgata Open in Atlantic City in a $3,500 NLHE re-buy two months ago. His largest payday following the WSOP ME win came in March at the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars in San Jose where a 43rd place finish after buying in for $7,600 was good for $20,890.
Riess has cashed eight times since bagging $8,361,570 last November, according to the Hendon Mob. Three of those finishes were at the 2014 WSOP, but added only about $9,000 to his lifetime earnings.
