Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Poker Room Robbery Suspect Arrested

The suspected armed robber of a Florida poker room made it across state lines into Georgia before authorities caught up with him and made an arrest without incident.

Dirk Davis, 24, is the alleged perp who pointed a gun at a Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa cashier in the wee hours of the morning on Feb. 2, demanding money. The cashier acquiesced and Davis made off with an unidentified amount of loot.

But as everyone knows, casinos capture everything on video. It wasn't long before officials released surveillance video of the heist, with the clock beginning to tick on Davis' time on the run.

Long Arm of the Law

He was eventually caught in Georgia, thanks to the efforts of Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay. Davis is being held without bail in a Montgomery County lockup. Extradition proceedings are now underway to return Davis back to jail in the Sunshine State to stand trial.

“It’s not smart to attempt a crime at a casino,” Seminole Police Chief William Latchford told Fox 13 News. “All Seminole Casinos have comprehensive surveillance video and other equipment that provide good quality photos and give us a clear picture of incidents that occur on property.”

According to officials, it marked the first time that the casino was victimized in a robbery in 14 years of operation.

“We also received amazing support and coverage from the news media and strong response from the public, all of which helped in identifying and capturing the suspect,” Latchford added.

The Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas was the scene of a similar robbery last November that saw the miscreant target the poker room cashier. No arrests have been made in that case as of yet. The authorities continue to investigate.
