Australia has already been the focus of the poker world for much of this year, seeing as the south-eastern city of Melbourne recently played a host to the Aussie Millions event. However, now the focus has shifted to the western Australian city of Perth, which is currently playing host to the Australian New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) Perth.

The Main Event attracted a total of 192 entrants, with players from all around Australia, as well as Asia and Europe having converged on one the world’s most isolated major cities for the Main Event.

A total of 105 players made the cut to Day 2, and Raiden Kan had the chip lead when the day started. While he stayed on for Day 3, he lost the chip lead during the day of play and was unable to get it back.

Instead, Michael Kane (not to be confused with the actor, whose surname is spelt Caine) was the event’s chip leader at the start of the third day of action at Perth’s Crown Casino. While he was one of only two players out of the remaining 36 who had over 200,000 chips going into Day 3, it meant very little as competition was fierce from the get go.

Less than three hours into the event’s second last day of play, the number of player’s remaining in the event had been cut down to just 23 as players fought hard for a spot in the final table. They were also fighting hard for a chance to get a slice of some of the Main Event’s prize pool, which will go to the top 21 players at the event.

The 21st spot in the event will leave with AUD$3,900 (around US$3,027). All players who make the final table will win five figure cash prizes (in Australian currency at least), with ninth place set to walk away with AUD$10,500 (around US$8,150).

The bank account of the runner-up in the Main Event is set to look a little better, with AUD$66,000 (around US$51,230) going to second place. AUD$105,000 (around US$81,500) will go to the winner, who will also have the distinction of winning one of the premier live poker events on this side of Australia.

Some notable players who remain in the event at the time of writing are PokerStars pro Bryan Huang and British poker shark Stephen Chidwick.

Originally hailing from Singapore, Huang has been a mainstay on the Australian poker scene for quite some time. He’s won and cashed in a variety of poker events, including the Beijing Millions, APT Philippines, the Aussie Millions and the Macau Poker Cup.

Chidwick, on the other hand, has a broader poker resume, having cashed in an amazing 29 WSOP events as well as eight European Poker Tour (EPT) events. However, they are certainly not the only ones with a chance of taking out the event, as all the remaining players have shown that they have what it takes to win the tournament.
