The Poker Monk: Booking Wins at MGM
7 years ago15 Mar
It appears The Poker Monk has emerged from a mild downswing after two consecutive winning sessions at the low stakes cash game tables.
A $225 profit at Hollywood Casino was followed by another $130 to the good at MGM National Harbor. Perhaps stepping back and taking a break from poker for a bit was just what the doctor ordered for Robert Dewberry.
Opponent Limps with Premium Hand
His most recent YouTube video finds The Poker Monk upbeat and in control, a far cry from the depressed, anxiety and panic attack-laden individual that the poker vlogger claims to be. I suppose when you run into passive players who play big slick rather weakly it will brighten your day and improve your mood, knowing full well that your loss could have been much greater against a more aggressive player.
Dewberry met one such player at MGM's $1/$3 tables who simply limped in as the big blind with the best unpaired hole cards possible. The Poker Monk analyzed the hand and his opponent's passivity, perhaps coining a new poker term in the process.
Bad Turn Card Nickname
When fourth street is not a particularly good card for you, it may hereafter be referred to as the "turd" instead of the turn card. Whether that word will catch on and go viral is anybody's guess, but if it does, you heard it from The Poker Monk first.
Also heard from Dewberry was that Panic! at the Disco would be performing a concert at the MGM National Harbor that evening, forcing him to navigate his way around hordes of "depressed 14-year-olds" while looking for a place to eat. Although The Poker Monk wasn't interested in seeing the concert, he is likely interested in seeing more action in the MGM poker room considering the fishy style of play put forth by some of his opponents at the $1/$3 tables.
