If you have ever dreamed of being the boss of a bad-ass posse in the Wild West, playing poker and winning enough to buy up the rest of the town – then now’s your chance! The Tiny Epic Western board-game has raised almost $500,000 to produce their fascinating version of ‘westworld’.

Described by its creator as “Poker meets worker placement”, you can play it solo or with up to three friends, and the game comes replete with all sorts of cool and cleverly-designed ‘Wild West’ paraphernalia, such as ‘bullet-shaped dice’, customisable ‘Wanted’-poster cards, and add-ons such as character ‘Meeples’, allowing you to get into the role much more fully.

The blurb for the game’s Kickstarter page explains the idea of the game:

In Tiny Epic Western, you are the boss! And upon your boss card, you will keep track of your posse and your influence. You’ll be sending your posse members around town to play poker, gain influence, and purchase buildings.”

Naturally the poker element is what will attract most readers of this page:

Each location offers compelling options of where to place your posse members. You will play a poker hand at EACH location you send a posse member to. Winning will get you the “poker pot” and any extra influence from a “double down” spot. You will need this influence for acquiring buildings later on in the round.”

If it sounds like a fantastic idea to you, then you’re not alone! The Kickstarter campaign has gained close on 15,000 backers, surpassed its funding expectations by more than 3000% and the $468,629 raised so far will allow the creators – Gamelyn Games –to fulfil all the ‘stretch’ goals which they had set – one of which is to ‘send Scott and Adam to the Wild West’ for reaching $450,000!

More backer and pledge-oriented goals include the ‘print-and-play’ extras, double-sided ‘boss cards’ and upgraded poker chips, all of which will enhance the gameplay of this quirky but compelling game.

Part of the gameplay sees the Sheriff’s Office as a unique location, “offering players the ability to change the value or suit of their poker card. It also offers a way to acquire an extra building each round and even activate your 3rd posse member!”

The crowd-funding-style campaign has already won awards, picking up 5th-Most Funded and 9th-Most Backed non-mini board game titles, which led the its creators to proclaim:

We did it! We truly did it! We unlocked everything!!! This game is getting the full TE treatment with ALL the bells and whistles!! Well done! and we even made history doing it!"

In similar fashion to many other Kickstarter campaigns, those who pledge more get access to many unique features – for example, the deluxe edition of ‘Tiny Epic Western’ not entering regular distribution. In addition, those who pledge to the next campaign can have gain game characters not available to regular customers.

Tiny Epic Western’s Kickstarter page now sports the title "That sure puts the pig meat in the fire!" A Truly Epic Conclusion!” and a short video explaining the gameplay is available here for all those lovers of poker and board-games.
