Heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury has told how he went out on a beer and gambling binge after beating Otto Wallin in Las Vegas at the weekend. The unbeaten Brit suffered a bad cut early in the fight, and even after coming into the bout as a huge 1-25 favourite, it wasn’t certain he could make it to the end, such was the injury.

Fury has made a name for himself as the sports biggest trash talker and joker, and wasn’t about to let something like this keep him down for long. Talking to BBC Sport at McCarran International Airport, he said:

"I went to the hospital, had a few stitches, went home and had an early night. Then I've got up, gone to the casino, won five grand, had a few beers and now I'm going to have a few more beers."

The “few” stitches he mentions was actually 47 in total. Most of us probably wouldn’t be in the mood for drinking and gambling after 12 tough rounds and a trip to the hospital, which tell us just what kind of staying power the 31-year-old from Manchester has.

"Listen I'm all right. It's boxing. You can't go swimming and not get wet. It's the fight game."

Fury is rumoured to be returning to Las Vegas in the new year for a rematch with American champion Deontay Wilder. The first bout was controversially scored a draw after most observers thought Fury won nearly every round except the two in which he was knocked down. If Fury can pull off a clean win this time to reconfirm his status as the world’s best heavyweight boxer you can expect to see him downing a few more pints on The Strip somewhere.
