London stop of the UKIPT Series 6 got underway on Friday. Pros and amateurs alike gathered in the Hippodrome Casino to try and follow in the footsteps of Martins Adeniya, the last man who bested the Series field in an unlikely comeback that saw him go from the last to the best.

UKIPT series features affordable buyin of £275 and somewhat faster structure with 30 minute levels, but the 20,000 starting stack still offers a decent amount of the play for the money invested. Day 1A saw a turnout of 163 players, all of them looking to capture the trophy and what was still an undetermined amount for the first place. The likes of Jake Cody, Willie Tann and Marc Convey were in the mix and although Cody did not make it through the day, he still booked a small victory over Convey.

The man who topped the leaderboard when it was bagging time was Darren Murphy with 220,300 and afore mentioned Tann finished in second place, with 170,400 in his plastic bag. Dean Perry in third place had 150,300 after the last hand was dealt. Total of 48 players made it through to Day 2.

Day 1B had even bigger turnout, as it is usually the case with later starting flights, as 193 players ponied up the cash needed to participate and when the last hand was dealt, 57 of them were able to survive. They would join those coming from Day 1A to combine into 105-strong field to start the Day 2 currently taking place in the Hippodrome Casino.

Some of the big names that took their seats yesterday were Martins Adeniya, 2010 Irish Open champion James Mitchell and double UKIPT winner Duncan McLellan.

Of these three, only Martins was able to finish with some bagging chips, as he would take 76,700 over to Day 2. However, George Alexander was the one with most reason to celebrate when it was all done for the day as he bagged 227,400 giving him an overall chiplead at the start of Day 2.

The first place of £16,800 is what the remaining 105 players will be fighting for. Total prize pool of £86,330 will be distributed amongst 47 players, with the minimum payout being £500. As for Martins Adeniya, he will not be making money this time, as he was eliminated just as bubble was looming. Robert Ayton got the unfortunate title of the bubble boy and remaining 47 players continue their chase for the first place.
