The casino dealer and poker player wanted in connection with the slaying of a Venetian Casino executive and the attempted murder of another former colleague was arrested this weekend in Texas, in a “true example of good, old-fashioned police work” according to a homicide detective.

Anthony J. Wrobel is accused of the murder of Mia Banks, the Venetian’s 54-year old Vice President of Casino Operations and the attempted murder of Hector Rodriguez, Executive Director of table games at the casino, with police describing “intense planning” behind the shooting last weekend at an employee’s picnic.

Wrobel, who is alleged to have fled the crime scene and abandoned his car at McCarran International Airport, was asleep in a stolen car when deputies approached the vehicle around 3 a.m according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.

"He woke up and grabbed a handgun, then dropped it when authorities confronted him", according to Metropolitan Police Department homicide Capt. Robert Plummer told Las Vegas reporters.

“A single sheet of paper was found on a coffee table expressing the writer’s anger at Venetian management,” when police searched his apparently “abandoned” home according to the arrest warrant for Wrobel, who worked at the Venetian for 15 years as a dealer and was described as a “disgruntled employee”.

Police discovered that Wrobel ‘had abandoned a revolver, three magazines and scores of rounds of ammunition in the Charger he left at McCarran International Airport’ with police reporting that he had ‘a handgun and two high-capacity magazines when arrested’.

The shooting ‘sparked a nationwide manhunt’ involving the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as well as Metro police and Wrobel is now being held in Oldham County Jail, ‘awaiting extradition to Clark County, where he faces counts of murder and attempted murder’ according to the Journal report.

Alyssa Anderson, a spokeswoman for The Venetian’s parent company, Las Vegas Sands Corp., said:

“All of us continue to mourn the loss of Mia Banks, our hearts are with Mia’s family,” adding that Rodriguez’ condition was continuing to improve “and we look forward to the day that he is released from the hospital.”

She said of Wrobel’s arrest:

“We hope this news provides some solace for everyone impacted by this tragic event.”

Hendon Mob has a listing for an Anthony Wrobel from Las Vegas, showing some $37,485 in cashes over the past several years.
