Weekly Online Poker Traffic Update: PokerStars Surging Again

The status quo appears to have been restored to the world of online poker, at least for this week anyway.

The majority of online poker rooms have retained their usual places on PokerScout’s online poker traffic rankings list since last week, when a few other networks found themselves in the top five.

That’s not the case this week, though.

As always, PokerStars has reaffirmed its place as the king of online poker, and it even saw a large increase to its numbers. The network currently boasts a seven-day player average of 22,500 players, an increase of 3,000 over the last week’s numbers.

This is significant as it defies predictions made by some critics that the network would see a fall in numbers following the recent changes.

888poker also retained its place as the top alternative to PokerStars. The network sits in second place with a seven-day player average of 2,400, which is the same average it recorded the last week.

It has a respectable buffer over third placed iPoker, which had an average of 2,000 players over the last week.

While that may be the case, iPoker’s current player average is an increase of 200 over average last week. Should it be able to capitalize on its solid momentum this week, it may decrease the buffer between it and 888poker, which will likely intensify the battle between the two networks for the coveted second place spot.

Full Tilt, PokerStars.it and PartyPoker currently sit in equal fourth place, with an average of 1,500 players a piece.

Both networks previously held the fifth place spot with the same amount of traffic. However, an increase in player numbers for PokerStars and iPoker at the expense of Bodog and Pokerstars.it seems to have paved the way for both networks to go up a spot.

The fourth place spot is likely to be a source of joy for both networks, but an even bigger source of joy will be if one of them is able to claim the spot as its own.

That would especially be great for PartyPoker, which seems to have had an eternal place at fifth spot until this week.

A small increase in its player average could see PartyPoker take the fourth place for itself, which would be a major ego boost for the network given its recent inability to ascend the rankings.

There is also a three-way tie for the fifth place, which is held by Winamax.fr, Adjarabet and Bodog, with 1,250 players a piece.

It will be interesting to see if either of those networks can break away from the others with a boost in their player numbers. This is especially so for Adjarabet and Bodog, both of which recently had higher places in the rankings list.

Any increases in player number for either of those networks could be the beginning of a resurgence given their recent popularity among online poker players.

In the US, Party Borgata continues to lead the way in New Jersey with a seven day player average of 150, while WSOP’s online poker network also kept its spot as the top network in Nevada, having boasted an average of 160 players for the past seven day period.
