It has been quite the start for the live poker tournament circuit in 2015, with much of the major events having been played in the beautiful Caribbean.

Both big money and big name players have been present so far this year. Here is a review of three major poker events that took or are currently taking place so far this year.

PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Super High Roller title goes to Steve O’Dwyer

Irishman Steve O’Dwyer is no stranger to professional poker, having amassed 15 WSOP in the money finishes as well as first place in last November’s Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP) Macau Super High Roller event.

It came as little surprise then that O’Dwyer did well in the PCA Super High Roller event. In fact, he won it along with the US$1,827,580 cash prize for first place.

At the start of the final day most of the bets were on Canadian player Sorel Mizzi to win as he held a huge chip lead over the rest of the field.

That was not the case, however, as Mizzi had to settle for fourth place after a bad run of events in the final stretch, which was when O’Dwyer rose to take out the top spot in the tournament.

Josh Kay Wins LAPT Bahamas Main Event

The Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) expanded to include the Bahamas, and the very first LAPT Bahamas event was played last week.

It gained a lot of intrigue from the professional poker players, as shown through the more than respectable 736-player field that took part in the event.

At the end of it all it was Josh Kay who came out the victor, having taken out the inaugural event and the US$367,928 cash prize that came along with it.

During the last phase of play, though, it looked like Martin Finger would be the one to run away with the trophy after he eliminated six of the first seven players from the final table.

Kay would have none of it, as he stood his ground and played well against Finger in the heads-up phase, having taken the chip lead before he eventually took out the event.

PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event Gets Underway

The first major poker event of the year, the PCA Main Event, got underway last week, and with 816 entries, it has proven to be as popular as ever.

After two starting flights, that number was cut down to 507 in time for the second day of play. Competition was fierce (and that is putting it lightly) throughout the day, though, as the total field was cut further to 187 players in time for the Day 3, which is set to get underway today.

Walter Fisher will be the chip leader going into Day 3, with a stack of 497,000 chips to his name. He is closely followed by Hugh Drummond and Juan Martin Pastor, however, who have 456,800 and 446,000 chips respectively.

Neither of them will likely be breathing any sighs of relief, however, as the other remaining players will be aiming to boost their chip stacks as the event enters its later stages.
