A number of major live poker events took place at most corners of the world last week, with Australia, Canada and the Czech Republic having played hosts to some notable tournaments. While it can be argued that there were few household names who participated in those events, many established high level poker players and up and comers took part.

Michael Kane Wins in Western Australia

The faraway western Australian city of Perth recently held one of its most prestigious poker events, the ANZPT Perth. The series culminated in the ANZPT Perth Main Event, which finished early last week and attracted 192 entrants from all over Australia, as well as Asia and Europe.

Competition was fierce from the go, with the chip lead alternating between a few players from the start to the finish of the event.

One of those players was Michael Kane, who ended his time in the Main Event with a strong final table performance, the first place finish and AUD$98,100 in prize money. It was a huge victory for Kane, who hails from Scotland, almost on the other side of the world from the Western Australian capital.

WPT Fallsview Main Event Crown goes to Anthony Zinno

The Canadian town of Niagara Falls played a host to the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic, and this year’s series had no shortage of dramatic events.

The WPT Fallsview $1,100 event, which took place just prior to the Main Event, saw the arrest of its chip leader, Harnam Matharu, while the final table was taking place.

While Matharu’s arrest was big news immediately after it happened, attention quickly turned to the Main Event, and specifically the stellar performance of one man, Anthony Zinno.

Zinno, who has a number of WSOP and WPT in-the-money finishes to his name, had a massive chip lead when the event’s final table got underway, and he never relinquished it.

The American faced some solid competition in the form of Mark Bailey during heads-up play, but Zinno weathered the onslaught unscathed as he knocked Bailey out of the tournament to win the event and its $314,629 prize for the first place.

Eureka Poker Tour Rozvadov Gets Underway

The western Czech village of Rozvadov is currently playing host to the first leg of Season 5 of the Eureka Poker Tour.

The latest season of the Tour officially got underway on Saturday, with the first starting flight of the Main Event having kicked off the festivities.

The first starting flight proved to be relatively successful, with 98 participants having turned out to play in Day 1a. Out of that number, 24 made the cut to Day 2. Dutch player Langar Oghabian ended the day as the comfortable chip leader, with 258,900 chips to his name.

The first leg of the Eureka Poker Tour is set to end on Sunday with the final day of the Main Event and two other smaller events to be played on that day.
