The poker world was blessed with a number of major high profile tournaments that took place in various parts of the world. From High Roller events in Las Vegas to a European event in Prague, there was a little something for almost everyone involved n live tournament poker.
Here is a review of the three major poker events that took place throughout the last seven days.
European Poker Tour Prague Main Event goes to Stephen Graner
The EPT Prague Main Event was always going to be popular, and with 1,106 participants having taken to the felt, popular was exactly what it ended up being.
Some of Europe and the world’s best poker players came to the Czech capital to partake in the event, which meant competition was fierce from the opening second of the tournament.
At the end of it all it was six-time WSOP in-the-money poker pro Stephen Graner who came out on top, and he went home with an extra €969,000 (around US$1.2 million) as a result.
It came after a truly stellar final table performance by Graner, in which he eliminated four of the other six remaining players in the event en route to taking out the EPT Prague Main Event.
Mohsin Charania Wins Five Diamond World Poker Classic
With a stack of WSOP, WPT and other major poker accolades to his name, Mohsin Charania has built a reputation as a solid poker pro over the last few years.
However, by Day 4 of the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic in Las Vegas, hardly anyone would have predicted that Charania would end up winning this year’s event.
That was because he was sitting last on the chip count tables with 78 players and two days remaining in the event, but that only seemed to fuel the Canadian to bring his A+ game.
He brilliantly worked his way to the final table, in which he entered with the fifth highest stack before he eliminated Garrett Greer in the heads-up play to win the event and its US$1,477,890 cash prize.
Andrew ‘LuckyChewy’ Lichtenberger Wins WPT Alpha8 Las Vegas
The WPT Alpha8 Las Vegas featured a US$100,000 buy-in and attracted 55 entrants, which included some of the most notable and strongest poker players in the world today.
They included the likes of Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Laak, Noah Schwartz and Andrew Lichtenberger, who took out the event and its US$2,104,245 cash prize.
The event’s final six players all got a share of the $5.4 million prize pool, and LuckyChewy played extremely well in the last phase of the event to claim the title and the biggest stake of the cash pie.
He eliminated the two of the three remaining players in the event before heads-up play began between Lichtenberger and Tom Marchese, who was eventually eliminated by Lichtenberger in second spot.
