Just in time for Christmas, the dates for some of the major events in next year’s World Series of Poker have been announced.
As always, the series will take around the middle of the year, with the first event set to officially kick off on May 27. This opening event will be the one dubbed 'The Colossus', a new event that will have a US$5 million guaranteed prize pool and will feature re-entries.
With a buy-in of $565, it is the lowest buy-in of any WSOP event in over three decades, which is likely to lead to a huge number of participants in the inaugural event.
One of the first major tournaments that is set to take place at the WSOP is the 'Millionaire Maker' event, which will get underway on June 5. The event will have a $1,500 buy-in and US$1 million will be guaranteed to the event’s winner – hence the name.
The ONE DROP High Roller event will also be returning to next year’s WSOP, with the $111,111 buy-in event set to kick off on June 28.
The event was last held in 2013 and attracted 166 players, an amazingly high amount for an event with such a high buy-in. It goes to show that when it comes to charitable activities, poker players are more than happy to do their bit.
WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart said next year’s series looked set to be huge and was confident that it would be as popular as the previous series that have been held.
We believe the WSOP is uniquely able to deliver the big event with life-changing money for some and a life-experience for all. We are going to proudly stage the kinds of events which draw players from all around the world while also staying true to our heritage of contesting all variants of poker.
As always, the WSOP will culminate in a $10,000 Main Event, which is set to take place over ten days starting from July 5. On July 14 the final nine players of the event – the November Nine - will be determined, and will return in November to see who will be crowned the new World champion of poker.
