His massive chip lead heading into the final table made him the favourite to win, but it was the continuation of his stellar poker play that made Anthony Zinno the winner in Canada. Zinno eliminated three of the event other players at the final table en route to winning the Main Event and the $314,629 cash prize that came along with the title.

However, it was fellow final table player Corey Hochman who claimed the first scalp on the final day of play when he eliminated Eric Cajelais in sixth place. Cajelais, who was shortstacked, moved all-in preflop with a2 and was immediately called by Hochmann, who had him dominated with Ace Eight off suit. His hand held on the board, which put Cajelais out of the event while bringing the event down to five.

Zinno then claimed his first final table scalp in the very next hand as he knocked Jeremy Halaska out of the event. Halaska moved all-in with ak after the turn yielded him a pair of Kings. However, with 108 , Zinno hit Trip Tens on the flop and also got a flush draw on the turn. It was no surprise then that he made the call and Halaska was eliminated in fifth place after the 7 on the river failed to help him.

Fourth place in the Main Event went to David Cloutier, who became Hochmann’s second and last final table victim. Cloutier moved all-in preflop with q5 and was called by Hochmann, who was ahead with Pocket Eights. The Eights held on the board to give Hochmann the hand while putting the tournament down to its final three players.

Despite the two eliminations and the chip ups that came along with it, Hochmann was the next player to be eliminated from the final table. That came at the hands of the eventual winner, who had previously won a big hand against Hochmann that left him shortstacked and in need of some major luck to keep him in the event.

He tried that luck when he moved all-in with King-Ten off suit. However, Zinno was once again waiting in the wings with Ace-Queen off suit. Both players hit a pair on the flop, but Zinno’s pair of Aces was superior and he won the hand.

Hochmann’s elimination left Zinno and Mark Bailey in heads-up play, with Zinno holding a huge chip lead over Bailey when the play began.

Bailey was not deterred, however, and he came close to taking the chip lead deep in play. However, it was simply Zinno’s night as he eventually knocked Bailey out of the event. In the final hand Bailey moved in after an 842 flop with aj (giving him a nut flushdraw).

He was called by Zinno, who was ahead with Pocket Kings, but was at a huge risk of losing the hand to another Club.

The 4 on the turn kept Zinno in the lead, but tension was still in the air with anticipation as to what the river card would be. It was the 7 , which meant the Kings of Zinno were still good and they won him the hand and the WPT Fallsview Poker Classic Main Event.
