Tomorrow (Sunday, May 10) will mark a start of one of the biggest online poker series in the world, as the first event of ever popular SCOOP (Spring Championship of Online Poker) will send cards flying through the virtual air.

Featuring total of 46 event in three different tiers, totaling 138 tournaments, PokerStars is once again looking to break the records in numbers of players and prizes given out during the series. Last year, the prizes' total amounted to more than respectable $81 million and some six-figure change and topping that will not be easy, but it can certainly happen.

Guaranteed minimum for the entire series is set on $40,000,000, but as we've seen time and time again, this number, as big as it may seem, turns out to be very conservative once it is all said and done.

In myriad of different events, featuring a range of buy-ins, games and formats, one tournament always attracts the most attention - the SCOOP Main Event. Set to take place on May 24, it offers big guarantees across the tiers.

  • Low - $109 buy-in and $1,000,000 guaranteed
  • Medium - $1,050 buy-in and $2,000,000 guaranteed
  • High - $10,300 buy-in and $4,000,000 guaranteed

Apart from buying in directly, players will, as always, be able to qualify via satellites and more than 2,000 SCOOP Main Event entries will also be given out as a part of the all-in shootout deposit raffle. Winner of the SCOOP High Main Event is guaranteed to walk away with at least $1,000,000 in his pockets.

SCOOP Stats

Entering seventh year of the SCOOP, PokerStars have launched a cool little feature on their site, SCOOP Stats, Facts and Figures, enabling you to see different stats gathered from all the previous events. It was, no doubt, quite an endeavour, but it is really nice to be able to see different numbers and make comparisons.

For example, players from Canada have both made the most final tables (650) and have taken home the most money to the tune of $57,731,000. When it comes to cashes, Germany is in the lead, with 42,499 ITM finishes.

The player who won the most money in the SCOOP events is none other than Viktor 'Isildur1' Blom, who earned $1,547,222. When it comes to winners, Canada is once again on top, having produced total of 90 SCOOP champions.

With another SCOOP ahead of us, these numbers are bound to change somewhat and we will try to stay in the loop and keep you informed about any big winners and interesting developments as they go down.
