Introducing the Most Successfull Women in Poker

Some years ago, a woman at the poker table may have been somewhat rare occurrence, but in today’s time not only that it is perfectly normal to see a woman at the table, but there is quite a number of ladies who made a great impact in the poker world. This article introduces some of them.

#1 Vanessa Selbst (born July 9, 1984) an American professional poker player who has made three final tables and two heads-up semi-finals at the World Series of Poker and won the 2008 World Series of Poker $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. Vanessa was born in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Yale University and plans to return to study law and to work as human rights issues attorney.

Vanessa is a member of Team Poker Stars Pro, where she plays under the username “V. Selbst”. Selbst is the highest earning female poker player of all time, with over $10.5 million in total winnings and the only women to win three bracelets in open WSOP events. She’s been playing poker for 10 years.

Vanessa made four High Roller final tables, winning the Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure High Roller in January, 2013. She is the first woman that have ever played in a Super High Roller event, taking third place at the Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure $100,000 buy in tournament in January 2014.

#2 Kathy Liebert (born October 1, 1967) is an American professional poker player. Liebert started her professional poker career as a prop player in Colorado. She won the first Party Poker Million event in 2002, the first limit poker tournament with a $1 million prize. She has made five WPT final tables, including a third place finish in the 2005 Borgata Poker Open. At the 2004 World Series of Poker, Liebert won a gold bracelet in a $1500 Limit Texas Hold’em Shootout event. She was one of three women to win an open event in that year’s WSOP. Her total tournament winnings amount to $5,561,016.

#3 Annette Obrestad (born September 18, 1988) is a Norwegian poker player. She has become the youngest winner of WSOP bracelet after taking down the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe Main Event. Annette started her poker career online when she was only fifteen years old, using the online screen-name “Annette_15”. She claims she has never had to deposit money on any online poker site making her initial online bankroll by winning freeroll poker tournaments instead. Between September 2006 and February 2007, she won over $500,000 on Poker Stars, $200,000 on Ultimate Bet and $136,000 on Full Tilt Poker. Her total tournament winnings are $3,503,855.

#4 Vanessa Ashley Rousso (born February 5, 1983) is a French-American professional poker player. She has dual citizenship in United States and France. She is also known by her Poker Stars online screen name Lady Maverick. Rousso is a member of Team Poker Stars, and she has earned over $700,000 with a second place finish in the main event of the World Championship of Online Poker. She ranks among the top five women in poker history in terms of all-time money winnings. Her overall tournament winnings are $3,489,244.

#5 Joanne Jishung (JJ) Liu (born April 10, 1965 in Taiwan) is a professional poker player from Palo Alto, California. She is the highest placing female in a World Poker Tour Championship event, finishing runner-up to Ted Forrest at the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars in 2000. Her total tournament earnings are $2, 688,847.

#6 Jennifer C. Harman - Traniello (born November 29, 1964) is an American professional poker player. She is considered to be one of the greatest poker players in the history of the game. She has won two World Series of Poker bracelets in open events. Harman won her first WSOP bracelet in 2000 at the prestigious No Limit Deuce to Seven Lowball Event. Although her total earnings amount to $2,624,183, Jen is better known for her skills as a cash game pro as she’s been known to butt heads with some of the toughest players around and emerged victorious more often than not.

#7 Olivia Liv Boeree (born July 18, 1984) is a poker player, TV presenter and model from England who won the 2010 European Poker Tour in San Remo. Boeree was introduced to the poker industry when she was selected as one of five contestants for the reality TV show ‘Ultimatepoker.com Showdown’. During the show she was coached by top poker players Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke and Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott. Her total tournament winnings are $2,538,518.

#8 Annie Duke (born September 13, 1965) is an American professional poker player and author. She holds a World Series of Poker gold bracelet from 2004 and formerly was the leading money winner among women in WSOP history (a title currently held by Vanessa Selbst). Duke won the 2004 World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions and the National Heads-up Poker Championships in 2010. She has written a number of instructional books for poker players, including Decide to Play Great Poker and The Middle Zone and she published her autobiography, How I Raised, Folded, Bluffed, Flirted, Cursed and Won Millions at the World Series of Poker, in 2005. Her total tournament winnings are $2,157,246.

#9 Victoria Coren Mitchell (born 18 August, 1972) is an English writer, presenter and professional poker player. Coren Mitchell writes weekly columns for The Observer and The Guardian newspapers and hosts the BBC television quiz show Only Connect. Coren was the first woman to win an event on the EPT, the first player to win both a televised professional tournament (EPT London 2006) and a televised celebrity tournament (Celebrity Poker Club 2005), and the first player to win two EPT Main Events (EPT London 2006 and EPT San Remo 2014). She is a member of team Poker Stars Pro and her total tournament earnings are $2,146,562.
