Lord of Poker: The First Role Poker Game

Fantasy role-playing games are not entirely new to poker players, after all, some of the world’s best came from just such a background before the green felt and chip-riffles stole their hearts and minds.

Just recently, Bertrand ‘ELkY’ Grospelier signed a sponsorship deal which will see him back in his old haunting ground of eSports as a Team Liquid Hearthstone player, so the latest combination of poker and RPG – a beautifully constructed idea looking for funding on KickStarter – should attract a very decent poker following.

Lord of Poker - styled as “The first role poker game. Raise your soul, check your mind!” – has taken to the KickStarter community in the hope that players will help to ‘crowdfund’ its development.

Combining poker with a fantasy role-playing world of magic potions, monsters, assassins and deep dark secrets can’t have been an easy idea to come up with, let alone visualise, but the Belarus developers’ one an expert in advertising, the other a professional poker player - have excelled in turning their dream world into a beautiful 2-D landscape a la Tolkien.

The premise of the game is remarkably simple, although the depth of play could end up being far more complex if their dreams become a funded reality.

Basically, in the world of Lord of Poker:

Our character finds himself in a small Poker Village, from where he, as well as many others contenders, starts his long and risky journey to the mysterious Castle to back the magic in poker. Different locations of the world require specific game styles, but the foundation of the game is always the same: Texas Hold’em.”

This ‘character’ can represent one of four main poker-playing roles -Druid, Wizard, Paladin or Assassin –each of whom has “four unique character attributes: Endurance, Courage, Luck, Mind” which can be built upon to increase their chances of becoming the Lord of Poker.

It’s impossible to do justice to the graphics in this article but for anyone who loves the magical world of fantasy locations and the strangely beautiful characters they discover therein, the Lord of Poker art team have hit the spot perfectly.

The sought-after funding for the project will enable the game to be released on various platforms in separate stages –

For example, if they raise $65,000, the game will be released on Windows and Mac OSX which is the main goal at the moment. In the future…

-$100,000 will see it out on iOS platforms,

-$125,000 for Android and

-$150,000 for PS4. $175,000 for XBoxONE and a whopping

-$250,000 will allow them to produce an in-game movie about the fantasy game-world’s history.

These sums may seem large, but for a game of this scale and grandeur – not to mention its completely novel combination of poker and RPG - a lot more could, and probably should, be raised.

As the main developers Alexander Petukh and Alexander Bernat point out:

All of your money will be spent exclusively on the development of the game.

1. With your help we will be able to spend all of our time on the project, instead of just spending our free time.

2. We plan to expand our team and hire an artist and several developers.

3. We will need some money for the production and delivery of gifts to our backers.

We look forward to your help in solving these quests.”

KickStarter, one of the first ‘crowd-funding’ sites which allow people who are interested in a project to help fund it, has a very good hit-rate when it comes to funding such RPG’s, so Lord of Poker may well appear by its hoped-for launch date in 2017.
