PokerStrategy.com reported on Monday that a new version of iPoker software is being developed and that it should officially see the light of the day sometime this year. The first public showing of the software was to take place this week in London during the ICE Totally Gaming Exhibition. PokerStrategy team has been working closely with the network trying to bring the best possible final product to the players.

According to the article, this new client is being built from the grounds up, and from the screenshots provided it seems that this new version will look nothing like the old instance. The overall feel as of right now is that of a modern product, trying to go with the flow and trying to fully utilize what the modern technologies have to offer.

The table on the other hand will look like what poker players expect to see from sites like PokerStars. PokerStrategy.com;

While the lobby itself will change significantly, making for easier navigation, especially for the recreational, less experienced players. The gameplay should also see some serious improvements, as the tables will be fully revamped and should look much more like those found at PokerStars.

Although the software is still not available for testing and some changes are still being implemented, it was announced that the freelancers for the site will soon get an opportunity to see the new iPoker platform in action. Later in the year, the Open Beta should be launched, allowing access for all interested parties.

Other concerns

As some players have pointed out in the comments, although it is nice to see modern looking software, there is more to it than a nice facade. One of the primary concerns for many players is the stability and many of them are wondering what is being done about the disconnects that have been somewhat common on iPoker.

The article, unfortunately, doesn’t contain too many details at this point as it is all still work in progress, but it can be stated as a fact that the disconnect issues will have to be addressed with special care in order for these new changes to be fully welcomed by the players.

Apart from this, there are also some other concerns, not the least of them being the new rake system implemented across the network, together with the tournament schedule and similar. Of course, it is very hard to offer a platform that will fit everybody’s needs and desires to the fullest, but considering today’s market climate, coming as close as possible to this is almost an imperative.

Regardless of some negativity (which can never be avoided), the revamped software should benefit everybody. Not only that it will clearly make playing easier for regs, it should also help in attracting new players.

The bottom line is, when a recreational player is looking for a good site to play, the first thing they will notice and care for the most is what the software looks like. It is one of the reasons (albeit not the only one) that PokerStars have been so successful over the years.

Bettering the software is certainly a step closer to the game optimum.
