Anton 'antesvante' Wigg

The Swede Anton Wigg admits that he has always had a knack for strategy games.

The Swede Anton Wigg admits that he has always had a knack for strategy games. Whether it be chess or a casual family round of cards, he came across poker at the perfect moment. Working as a caretaker at the time after finishing education at 18, Wigg ran up his initial €50 deposit into over €50k whilst at the job. After a particularly lucratively night at the tables where he made more money in one session than he did for a month's worth of work at the caretaker job, he decided to set aside €20,000 for a bankroll with the aim of taking a serious crack at the poker full-time. Building the majority of this bankroll from cash games, Wigg diversified his game and also began playing tournaments more regularly using the screenname 'antesvante' on PokerStars. He never looked back since.

Wigg has become one of the most successful players in the world of online tournaments, firmly within the top 100 earners and reaching an all-time high of #2 in 2015. Today, his winnings amount for almost $5,000,000 on PokerStars alone, with a combined total of over $7,400,000 when you include his earnings from Full Tilt ('antesvante'), PartyPoker ('Antes08'), his old PokerStars account ('Rollaround88') and Winamax ('itsasatchel'). His biggest online cash came in 2009, when he won the prestigious Sunday Million for $227,820. The online equivalent of the WSOP Main Event in terms of scale and ROI, Anton outlasted 7,593 other players to take the huge first prize. Other big titles include a Super Tuesday win in 2010 for $79,639, two Sunday 500 events for $90,000 a piece and numerous Powerfest titles to his name.

Impressively, Wigg balanced this online career with continued appearances on the European circuit. His biggest live win came in 2010, when he won the EPT Copenhagen DKr 35,000 Main Event for $672,818. His EPT track record is one of the more impressive in terms of titles won, as he claimed another nine trophies to make a grand total of 10 EPT accolades for the mantelpiece. In recent years, he has started to play on the international circuit, gaining his first WSOP cash in 2012 and making the money on multiple occasions in the historic $10,000 Main Event.

Wigg continues to put in a ton of volume online and his tournament earnings in this realm continue to go from strength to strength each year.
