From 2005 to 2015, poker served American-born Brett Richey as his main source of income. During this period, he raked in over $1,300,000 in live tournament earnings with more than a million dollars coming from WSOP events.

Brett is considered to be a mixed-game specialist, a fact demonstrated by his MTT record. Although he’s never managed to get his hands on a WSOP gold bracelet, he has finished runner-up on multiple occasions. The first of these was in 2009, when he lost out to English Triple Crown winner Roland de Wolfe in the heads-up finale of the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha Ho/Lo event. His second-place finish earned him a six-figure score – an achievement that Richey could be proud of given that the field included bracelet winners that he outlasted in John Racener and Andy Bloch.

Three years on and Brett had another what-could-have-been moment when he finished second in the $3,000 Pot Limit Omaha event. This time around, it was Austin Scott that ended Richey’s dreams of becoming a bracelet winner. However, the American did earn himself $223,492 in his biggest payday to date.

He has achieved two other six-figure scores at the WSOP – one back in 2010 when he finished thirteenth in the $50,000 Players Championship 8-Game event, and another more recently in 2013 for a deep run he made in the Main Event.

In 2015, Brett announced that he’d be stepping away from poker full-time to pursue the development of a daily fantasy sports (DFS) app he started called BlitzPick. Given the rise in popularity of DFS sites like DraftKings and FanDuel – particularly crossing over into the poker world with numerous pros taking an interesting in sports betting – Richey’s app caters for users of these sites by providing valuable information to help people make the best picks. Poker legend Phil Hellmuth has shown support for Richey’s new business venture as he explained in his Poker Brat book:

‘I’ve always believed that anyone who could make it in the poker world for five years as a professional player could make a fortune in business. Brett Richey is one of those . . . BlitzPick is truly the best sports information app out there’.

Now living in Vegas to continue working on the app alongside Vegas sports bettor Eric Liu, Richey’s interests have even extended to the realm of rap. He previously was a member of the group ‘Dream/Clone’ and has combined his love for poker and rap with lyrics about his life as a gambler (you can check one of his own tunes out here).
