Another member of the young guard, David Vamplew originates from a place near Edinburgh, Scotland. He was born on September 27, 1987, making him 26 at the time of writing this article. He did not get involved with poker before starting his studies at the Edinburgh University in 2005. During this period, he was working at a supermarket, but it did not take him long to figure out that he could be making much more money playing poker. After finishing his studies in 2009 and earning his degree in Mathematics, he wasn’t really sure what he wanted to do. So he decided to give a life as a poker pro a chance in 2009. Although he never had a coach or a mentor, he developed his game talking strategy with his friends. His first success on the live circuit came during the 2010 WSOP, when he managed to cash one event. The amount was quite small, but it helped keeping the passion for poker alive. The first serious score was just around the corner. In the September of 2010 he took the title and the $1.4 million cash UKIPT London event. Although his future scores did not come near this one in terms of money, he took two 2nd places in the WSOP events during 2013 for combined amount of over $750k, coming very close to seizing his first bracelet. His overall live tournaments winnings are slightly over $3,000,000, while Pocketfives.com lists his online cashes under the alias “davidv1213” as nearly $1.4 million. Vamplew believes that poker is not the job for everybody and that you miss out on lot of benefits of an office job as a full time poker professional, and dealing with inevitable swings can certainly take its toll, but he is not sure that he could go back to working an ordinary job after his success on the green felt. Las Vegas left a very deep first impression on him, as everything was so huge, with flashing lights and a lot of people around you always ready to party. Although he found it very fun, he is not so sure it is the place where he would like to live. Apart from being poker player, David Vamplew enjoys traveling, punk music and – good food. Not only that he loves visiting good restaurants for a quality meal, but he also finds a great pleasure in cooking and preparing his own dishes whenever he has time to do it. As for the traveling, although he usually travels alone, he will often share the room with some of the other regulars on the circuit and there is often not enough time to visit many places outside of a hotel or a casino. But that also usually means that he is doing good in the tournaments, so it’s not something he could really complain about.
