Pennsylvania-born poker pro John Andress is a well-rounded player that began taking his journey seriously in 2010, quickly rising through the ranks online by playing head-up cash games. Now a format that doesn’t really run so often, John has diversified his skill set to include MTTs both live and online, as well as deep-stacked cash games that incorporate ante structures.

In terms of live cashes, he is best known for his recent win at the 2017 SHRPO $25,000 High Roller event where he earned $801,450 for the victory. Considering the line-up was a decorated one including the likes of Super High Roller Bowl winner Rainer Kempe and long-time endboss Thomas Marchese, Andress’s triumph was all the more impressive.

John’s live tournament results are more about quality over quantity since grinding the circuit isn’t his primary focus. In addition to his large 2017 win, the American also picked up an EPT title back in 2011 – just one year after he’d began playing poker – at the €10,000 No Limit Hold’em Re-Entry event in Prague. Again, this was a pretty insane achievement when you consider that he had to get past such legends as Mike McDonald, Philipp Gruissem and Luke Schwartz at the final table.

The bulk of John’s success has come in the online arena on PokerStars playing under the screenname ‘68ioweyou1’. Since 2010, he has racked up over $2,000,000 in MTT earnings on this site alone, and it is likely that Andress has accrued a similar amount playing cash games online as well. His largest tournament score was in 2013 after he binked the WCOOP-56 $530+R NLHE event for $118,756.

Recently appointed as a coach for Phil Galfond’s training site Run It Once, his videos are proof of John’s commitment to continually improving and evolving as a player. He uses advanced software such as PioSOLVER to push the envelope on effective strategies in NLHE today (you can check out his videos here).
