Florida’s own John Racener is a tournament poker specialist with over a decade’s worth of experience in the game. Finding poker at the age of 20, he is most famous for finishing runner-up in the 2010 WSOP Main Event for $5,545,955 – second only to the Canadian Jonathon Duhamel. In a tough final table fought between a number of professional players, Racener’s dreams were kept alive as he doubled-up through Duhamel when his AQs out-flopped Duhamel’s AKo.

The big payday that this event gave Racener enabled him to ‘travel around . . . and play any stakes – comfortably’. He made a six-figure score before the year closed out in the 2010 Doyle Bruson Five Diamond World Poker Classic $10,000 Championship Event, finishing in 2nd place for a healthy $232,271. Since then, he has continued to have immense success in the WSOP, playing a bunch of tournaments in Las Vegas each summer. More recently in 2017, he got his hands on his first WSOP bracelet, winning the $10,000 Dealer’s Choice 6-Handed event for $273,962. A proud mumma’s boy, Racener bagged the bracelet whilst wearing a white t-shirt with the loving message ‘FOR MOM’ written across it. Cashing in a total of 17 events for the 2017 series, John ranked in the top 5 of the WSOP Player of the Year by accumulating 853.16 points. Speaking on this momentum in an interview with Paul Seaton, Racener emphasised:

‘This has always been a goal of mine and I really want to get that banner on the wall of the Rio that says Player of the Year with my name on it’.

To add to his live tournament winnings of over $9,500,000, Racener has amassed a sum of money through online poker as well. His commitment to the game began with playing online, with Racener turning his initial $50 deposit into $30,000 in the span of a year. Playing at a variety of sites under a number of different screennames, John has accumulated over

$1,000,000 in MTT online winnings alone (you can check out his results in detail here).
