Aside from his tracked live winnings, Mikhail Petrov has managed to keep a low profile on the poker scene. This is something that most pros hope to do – it allows the best players to still get action at tables since their identity is unknown. Given that this Moscow-born tournament specialist stepped onto the scene playing large buy-in events, it is likely that he built a bankroll playing online and sharpened his skills there.

In terms of his live successes, he is best known for his runs on the European circuit. The Russian made no less than five EPT final tabes between 2010 and 2016 – the most notable of which was at the 2016 EPT Dublin €5,000 Main Event. He secured a seat amongst the final nine after outlasting dozens of the toughest players in the game including German high rollers Christoph Vogelsang and Stefan Schillhabel. Unfortunately, Petrov’s dream of winning a major live trophy was cut short when he exited in ninth for $53,821.

Though Mikhail hasn’t yet been able to win the biggest European events on the schedule, he’s certainly come close. In 2012 he got down to the final two tables at the EPT Prague Main Event but made a premature departure in 12th. 2015 saw him make another deep run when he finished 22nd at the €5,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament at EPT Barcelona.

While the majors have eluded him, Petrov’s live career hasn’t been entirely without victories. In 2012, he secured his first EPT title when he won the €1,000 NLH Win The Button side event in Madrid.
