Tomeu Gomila

Although the Spaniard has been playing poker long before 2006, it was at this time that he entered his first live tournament and has never looked back since. Explaining his love for the format in a 2014 interview, Tomeu stated:

‘Tournaments fascinate me for different reasons. First, they give you a chance at a big shot. Second, the excitement that comes once you start going deep in a tournament is something really awesome. Also, in tournaments the level is generally lower than in other games’.

Gomila has enjoyed numerous large scores on the live circuit, particularly between 2011 and 2012. In August of 2011, he reached the final table at the EPT Barcelona Main Event. While his luck ran out prematurely and saw Tomeu exit in fifth, his deep run did earn him an impressive $266,525 as he finished ahead of a list of talented pros including Tobias Reinkemeier and Venessa Selbst.

Tomeu caught another six-figure score the following year after he made the final table of the €8,500 Partouche Poker Tour Main Event in Cannes. Though it was another early exit for the Spaniard as he departed in eighth-place, he was awarded a $175,398 payday for reaching the final eight.

One aspect of poker that Gomila has really enjoyed from his years on the live circuit is the amusing stories he’s been a part of. The weirdest one he ever encountered was ‘when a player took a bunch of chips out of his bag after he had been eliminated. I remember that when people asked him what he was doing, he answered:

“I saved half of my stack in case someone would eliminate me”’.

Known as ‘amatos’ on PokerStars, Tomeu has also accumulated hundreds of thousands playing online. When he’s not playing poker, he is a big follower of politics and sports and a proud fan of Real Madrid.
