Total of 661 players returned yesterday for the final event of this year's World Series of Poker - the $10,000 No Limit Hold'em Championship better known as the Main Event. After long hours of fierce battling at the felt, only 237 of them remain standing.

With bubble already out of the way, there wasn't too much for players to worry about other than accumulating chips, nurturing hopes for the coveted seat in the select group that is the November Nine. As it is always the case, many have fallen during this relentless battle.

More honorable mentions

Former Main Event champions are the ones to watch every year, and there is no reason that 2015 should be any different. However, after yesterday, only one of them still remains standing, as Phil Hellmuth, Joe Hachem, Ryan Riess and Jonathan Duhamel were all sent packing. Jim Bechtel, 1993 winner, now stands alone to defend the colors of former champs. He will be coming back to the stack of 1.1 million.

One of the players who piqued the interest of the poker public was William Wachter, a 94-years war veteran who was making a really deep run. Unfortunately, his fairytale ended yesterday, as he was eliminated in 524th place.

Others whose Vegas adventure has come to an abrupt end include Davidi Kitai, Vladimir Schemelev, Sky Poker's Stuart Rutter, JC Tran and George Danzer, to only mention a few.

Still a packed field

Despite of only couple of hundred still remaining in the hunt, the Main Event can really be described as packed at this moment, as quite a few very strong players are in with some ammo to work with. Currently leading the pack is Joseph McKeehen, with 3.1 million in chips. McKeehan has just shy of $2 million in live earnings with about half of that coming from the WSOP events, so he certainly knows his way around the block.

Brain Hastings, the man who already claimed two gold bracelets this Series, is sitting pretty just shy of 2.5 million in chips. Then there is Justin Bonomo, who bagged 1,350,000 which constitutes some serious fire power. Only few chips behind him is the man who needs no introduction, Daniel 'KidPoker' Negreanu.

Jared Jaffe has one bracelet to his name and yesterday he was able to bag 1.25 million so he is looking good for tonight, together with Max Steinberg who is only behind a few big blinds.

While the above are all in the seven figure territory, there is plethora of others who bagged decent six figures, like Matt Glantz, Jake Cody, Christian Harder, Men Nguyen...

Antonio Esfandiari and Dan O'Brien will have some work to do as they are near the bottom of the leaderboard, but there is no doubt that they both have the skills required, so if the Lady Luck decides to smile on them just a little bit, they could be back in the upper parts of those counts in no time.

An exciting day (night) of poker is clearly ahead of us and although many more heroes are bound to fall along the way, some of them will undoubtedly find their way further through the minefield that is the Main Event, keeping their own and hopes of their fans alive!
