June Online Gaming Revenue Drops Sharply in Delaware

Last week it was reported that online gaming revenues in the US state of New Jersey decreased in June. That decline has spread to Delaware, one of the other two US states to currently have regulated online gaming and poker.
The eastern US state of 935,000 people posted an overall monthly online poker revenue of US$30,675, which was down 21.8 per cent on the previous month. The size of the decrease presents some cause of concern, as it among the largest month on month declines since online gaming and poker was regulated in the state.
However, while $30,675 seems like a small revenue figure, it is not the lowest amount recorded - Delaware posted $27,695 in online poker revenue back in January.
Monthly revenue numbers for general online gaming also do not fare so well, with overall revenue having fallen by 18.7 per cent to US$108,692 last month. The news did not get better for year-on-year revenues as the state recorded a 42 per cent decline for iGaming from June 2014.
It was not all bad news for Delaware’s online gaming industry, though, with year-on-year revenues for online poker serving as a saving grace. June’s recorded online poker revenue actually marked an increase of 19.8 per cent compared to the same number from June 2014.
However, the revenue recorded in that particular month (US$25,607) was among the lowest for online poker in Delaware so far. The lower than usual revenues should be a cause of concern for those involved in Delaware’s online poker market.
Despite that, there is little likelihood that there will be any kind of panic in the industry as the US summer months tend to attract lower player numbers and revenue.
If this proves to be an actual trend, then online gaming and poker numbers may pick up a little more for the remainder of the year.
