The revenue results are in and they show that online poker in the US state of New Jersey has fared a little better in July, at least if revenues are used as a measure.

The state’s Division of Gaming Enforcement reported that the state recorded US$1.885 million of revenues in July that was purely attributed to online poker.

This marked 2 per cent increase on the previous month’s online poker revenue of US$1.835 million.

While the small increase is certainly better than any decline in revenue, it is still a cause of concern given that it marks the fourth straight month that online poker revenue has been less than US$2 million.

Total online poker revenue in the state has decreased by 14 per cent month on month from 2014 50 2015, a potential sign that the novelty for online poker in New Jersey may have started to wear off.

Signs of the online poker novelty wearing off in the state can also be seen through the trend in player numbers on the website over the last few quarters.

In December last year, Party Borgata had a seven day player average of 150 players to its poker network, according to PokerScout.

This has now decreased to 120 players, a one quarter drop over the course of this year.

The joint WSOP/888 online poker network in New Jersey had a seven day average of 220 players in February this year.

Now it has a seven day player average of 180, a decrease of over a fifth over the last six months.

Although WSOP/888 have attracted more players, it is actually Party Borgata who earned more revenue in July.

WSOP/888 recorded US$999,322 in revenue for the month, while Party Borgata recorded US$886,363.

While July’s online poker revenue is well below its 2014 monthly peaks, the slight increase over June’s revenue shows that revenues in the state may have ‘bottomed out’.

Revenues in other forms of online gaming in New Jersey were also higher in July than they were in June.

Online casino games recorded a 7.1 per cent increase in monthly revenue, which helped bring total online gaming revenue in the state to US$12.5 million.

July was also a good month for ‘bricks and mortar’ poker in New Jersey, with total revenues in that area having risen by roughly one third in the month.
