Anthony Spinella in Online Poker History Books Again
6 years ago02 Mar
It was a case of ‘guilty as charged’ for ‘casedismised’ this week as he became the first player to win a WSOP Circuit ring online, to add to his historic 2015 WSOP bracelet win which was played mostly online – only the final six playing the finale out live at the Rio.
Not that Spinella is an unknown either live or online by any stretch of the imagination outwith his WSOP exploits, amassing over 3000 cashes and $4.8million with his ‘holdplz’ accounts on PokerStars and the old Full Tilt.
Add to that $2.8million+ in live earnings and he is a serious contender wherever and however he plays, last March seeing his career biggest live cash of $786,610 when he finished runner up to Sam Panzica in the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star Main Event.
This week, however, it was all done from the comfort of his home, the $365 re-entry event on WSOP.com drawing 420 entries and producing a prize pool of $137,760…
…attracting the likes of Joshua Reichard, Scott Clements and last week’s big news item, Mike Leah, fresh off the controversial deal he made to lift the WPT Fallsview title.
The final table, however, didn’t feature Leah – and the duo of Reichard and Clements would have to wait for another chance to increase their poker jewellery hauls as they fell in 6th and 7th respectively. Instead it was Jessica Dawley who pushed Spinella all the way…
…but when the New York-born, Vegas-resident Spinella finally sent her to the rails as runner-up, history was made as the first online bracelet and ring winner.
