Betfair Site Down – Work of Hackers or Something Else? (Now Back)

The official site of the Betfair Poker has gone down a few hours ago without a clear explanation. The page only states that they are ‘currently experiencing technical problems’ and ‘doing everything we can to fix it as soon as possible’. There is no indication whether the malfunction is a result of a technical error or something more vicious like a hacker attack.

This was the first in a series of tweets that followed on the Betfair support channel. Players have quickly gathered to express their concerns, especially about the matched bets that need to be traded as soon as the goal is scored in a live match. As time went, people’s concerns grew but Betfair has been seemingly unable to offer a reasonable explanation or the timeframe within which the issue would be resolved.

At the time of the writing of this article, the site remains down without a real timeframe apart from the ASAP prediction. Whatever a cause of the issue is, it seems like a serious one as it is not common for large sites to drop for such extended periods of time.

There will probably be a press release or at least an explanation once the matter is resolved and we will keep an eye on the development of this situation.

The issue has been resolved and the site is back up and running now!
