Cheltenham’s Chris Brice walked off with £187,500 and the partypoker UK Championships Main Event trophy last night after defeating Daniel Clark heads-up at the Dusk Till Dawn Casino in Nottingham, almost tripling his lifetime earnings in one fell swoop.

More than 1000 entries had swollen the prizepool to a staggering ÂŁ1,043,720 and the fourth and final day of play included the likes of Steven Morris, fresh off his Super High Roller victory, with the official final table of eight quickly set after Morris turned a straight and persuaded bubble boy Daniel Charlton to call his all-in.

Morris, obviously on a high from his excellent back-to-back final table runs, was proving to be a handful for most players, but he wasn’t the only man running good, Brice himself never at risk during the tournament and spiking a jack on the river to finish off long-time chip leader Morgan’s title-hopes in a set-over-set finale.

With Clark also fighting hard to keep pace with the leaders…

… Morris eventually hit the rails after pushing things too far, Ning Lu’s pocket aces taking him to task, although Morris can be very happy with his week’s work - £100k+ and a trophy no small achievement.

When the heads-up battle finally appeared it was Brice and Clark who were the last men standing…

…and the to-and-fro was rudely interrupted when both men found huge hands, Clark the one at risk as his ace-king was faced with the pocket kings of Brice, and when the board was of no help Chris Brice was declared champion.

“It’s been such a good tournament. So prestigious. I’m just absolutely delighted,” said the victor, adding:  “It means a lot to my family and me, and I’m just very grateful obviously to partypoker, and Dusk Till Dawn for running such a great tournament.”

The family man from Cheltenham explained of the final day’s play:

“Today went very smoothly, again no bumps in the road … I don’t think there were any obvious weak spots at the final table. I had great respect for all of the players I came up against. I made good decisions and had a good feel for where I was most of the time.”
