The cryptocurrency-based poker site CoinPoker has expanded its reach into Asia even further by teaming up with the Japanese Poker Association (JPA) as this year's sponsor of the Japan Poker Cup.

The agreement with JPA comes on the heels of a deal with the Asian Poker Tour to sponsor APT action throughout 2018. CoinPoker is certainly making a footprint in the Asian continent through these new alliances, which is understandable considering that Asia remains among the leaders in embracing digital currency.

"I believe in the CoinPoker project and I believe in a successful partnership between CoinPoker and the Japan Poker Association," said JPA president Kinichi Nakata.

Believers in Blockchain

That project includes the creation of CoinPoker's own cryptocurrency, CHP, used to facilitate all bets and transactions. The backbone of CoinPoker's platform is blockchain technology, which makes for a fair and safe poker-playing environment that has been sorely lacking throughout the online poker industry.

The collaboration between JPA and CoinPoker is a win-win for all involved, especially for Japanese players living in rural areas. Those players, as well as Japan's city dwellers, will now be able to qualify online for the Japan Poker Cup.

From April to August, CoinPoker will be hosting satellites that allow players to win seats to the first stage of the Japan Poker Cup. Full details will be announced shortly. And while this newest sponsorship agreement is aimed at players in Japan, players everywhere are welcome to participate

A Coveted Cup

Last year's cup attracted more than 8,000 players who came from more than five dozen poker venues to participate. Organizers are expecting some 9,000 players this year over a span of eight months, with the added prize of a seat at the 2019 WSOP going to the cup winner.

"We expect a lot of interest in how we applied blockchain technology and cryptocurrency to online poker, and are excited to continue expanding throughout Japan and Asia,” said Adrian Tamas, CoinPoker's representative in Japan. "CoinPoker is looking forward to introducing CoinPoker to even more Japanese players."

Tamas and Nakata began partnership discussions earlier this year. The JPA is aiming to promote poker across the nation, and the CoinPoker site will provide the means to achieve that goal.
