Short and slick is the only way to describe the teaser Daniel Negreanu released on his YouTube vlog, promising to spend over $1million of his own money on buy-ins during the upcoming World Series of Poker.
“I’m going to share with you what it’s like to grind the WSOP 24/7,” says Dnegs amidst drone footage of the bright lights of Vegas and clips of bracelets and memorable moments, such as the dramatic end to his deep run in 2015 – the closest he has come to a Main Event takedown.
The Toronto man who resides in Vegas has 4 bracelets to his name from the annual festival held in the USA, his first-ever cash also being a win when he scooped $169,460 in the $2,000 Pot Limit Hold'em event back in 1998, becoming the youngest WSOP bracelet winner in history.
With over $12 million of his $30 million+ tournament earnings coming courtesy of the WSOP, and he’s always one of the best players to follow and sweat as he attempts to score his first piece of jewellery since 2008.
He has won more recently in the Europe and Australia versions of the World Series, but few people count those as truly genuine goldware – and he has a long way to go to match Phil Hellmuth’s 14 Vegas victories.
Negreanu is a well-known social media addict and took to Twitter to also announce his regular WSOP Fantasy Draft, explaining that:
“The point system we use is final table heavy. You get a lot of points for final tables and also events with higher buy-ins are more heavily weighted. We do have a field size bonus as well, so deep runs in those monster sized NLH events can reward you with big points. Mainly though, the best approach is to fill your team with talented mixed game players who play in the big buy in events like the $50,000 Poker Players Championship. At the tables, the WSOP Fantasy draft is a hot topic of conversation and gives people a really fun sweat for the duration.”
Whether Negreanu himself is a good bet for a few deep World Series runs is another matter entirely, but as his latest vlog says:
“Join me guys – it’s going to be one hell of a ride!”
