David Haye Signs Deal to Represent Grosvenor Poker2 weeks ago
Former world heavyweight boxing champion David Haye has signed a deal to become an ambassador for Grosvenor Poker.
The retired sportsman has shown an aptitude for poker since hanging up his gloves and will now put his efforts behind helping Grosvenor recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
If there’s one thing that professional boxers have in droves it’s competitive spirit. That burning fire in the belly gives them a will to win not always seen in other sports.
When it comes to retirement time this can often be a problem. That driving force behind their lives is suddenly gone from one day to the next. Many former boxers have gone off the rails after retiring, some turning to alcohol and drugs as they struggle to find purpose in a very different life.
David Haye has found poker to be an ideal substitute. It is intensely competitive and requires incredible effort to maintain a good level.
Three months ago a documentary called David Vs Goliath was released on Amazon Prime charting Haye’s first steps into tournament poker. 2018 was his fledgling year getting everything ready for a proper go during 2019.
Haye did very well considering his lack of experience. An amazing run to 40th position out of 9,300 entrants in the Goliath event shows that the work he did was effective.
Square Up to Haye
To celebrate Haye’s signing a series of Hayemaker Bounty tournaments will be spread where you can square up to the former heavyweight and maybe try to teach him a poker lesson or two.
Also, the 2020 Goliath event will be held online due to the current COVID-19 restrictions in the UK. Between August 1st -10th the mass participation tournament will be aiming to set another record for entries.
