Poker legend Doyle Brunson announced on his Twitter on Thursday that he would have to subject himself to another major surgery after he was diagnosed with melanoma for the third time. The news came as an unpleasant surprise to a number of Doyle’s friends, fans and followers.
Got my 3rd melanoma confirmed today.Early stages, should be simple operation.Fortunately, it's on my head and everybody knows I'm hardheaded

From his lighthearted tweets, it seems that Brunson himself is not taking the whole matter too seriously. This may well be the case because it's not his first time battling cancer, and thus far Doyle has been able to hold his own.
In fact, Brunson has been battling in one way or another for more than fifty years. It took a lot of heart and a number of surgeries, but each and every time, the Texan came out victorious.
Simple or not, this will be my 12th major operation. Gonna play poker now because i always heard u get lucky right before u die.#justsaying

A major surgery is never good news, but it is particularly concerning when taking into consideration that Doyle is now over 80 years old, making the risks even greater. On the other hand, he’s proven to be a fighter time and time again, not only by beating cancer numerous times but by coming back to the highest cash games and playing against the best every single time.
Playing in the games the Texan plays in is hard enough on its own. Being able to play at his age and after everything he’s been through shows a truly amazing will and strength. That is why we are certain that Doyle will beat this thing heads-up once again.
Doyle received many messages of support from his friends and fans on Twitter and we join them in offering the poker legend our best wishes for a successful surgery and fast recovery.
