Story of the Durrrr Challenge is an old one and the one that should have finished a long time ago, but as everyone following the world of highstakes poker knows – this is not the case. Challenge between Dan ‘jungleman12’ Cates and Tom ‘Durrrr’ Dwan got off the ground back in 2011 but all activities on that front came to halt with the Black Friday and demise of Full Tilt.

Since that time, Full Tilt was revived, most players got their money back (apart from some US players who are still waiting for the compensations), big changes took place with the room – but the challenge is still nowhere to be complete. In this span of time, a big 2+2 thread has piled up hundreds (if not thousands) of posts regarding the situation, but it really hasn’t done anything to change the situation.

To remind you, when the play stopped back in 2011, Jungle was up more than $1.2 million with more than 20K of total 50K hands played. In addition to any money won at the tables, Cates had another $1.5 million coming from Dwan if he was able to finish the challenge in the black. But that stipulation does not seem very likely to come true anymore.

No Real Progress

Only 2.5K hands counting towards the challenge were played in 2013 and none in 2014, despite the stipulation that Dwan was to pay Jungle $40K penalty for every two months that went on without challenge activity, with additional $10K added every two months that go by. In his most recent interview for PokerListings, Cates explained that the number is now up to $300,000 and that he hasn’t seen one cent of that money yet.

He failed to uphold any promises he made to me,” said Cates. “He's extremely frustrating. It's outrageous. I feel like he won't complete it, for a few reasons, but for now I won't divulge his personal situation. But I'm not thrilled with anything I hear about him. Dan Cates, Poker Listings;

It is uncertain what this information Jungle is holding back is, but he does make it sound like it could seriously hurt Dwan’s reputation which has already been pretty much shattered because of him avoiding facing the music and prolonging the bet indefinitely.

It is understandable why Cates is so upset, being up the amount he is with half the challenge gone, but Tom Dwan just doesn’t seem to care. Rumors about him have it that he is playing in the super-high stakes games in Macau and that he is being treated really well by some of the Macau high-rollers, but nothing has really been confirmed.

At this point in time it really does not look like Durrrr has any intention of finishing the challenge and Cates told Poker Listing that he doesn’t even respond to his texts any more. Once the biggest story of online nosebleeds has now turned into a longwinded soap opera with an uncertain ending.

Will Dwan ever sit Cates again? Will Cates claim the money he is owned? Is ‘Durrrr’ finished? This and much more – coming up (sometimes in the future).
