Gambling company William Hill sent an email to their partners to remove all Dutch marketing materials promoting their business.
William Hill, a trusted brand operating worldwide, decided to block Dutch players and close down all registered accounts. Marketing activities on the website in the Dutch language have also been blocked and removed.
For regulatory reasons, we are writing to instruct you to discontinue all Dutch-language marketing activities and any other marketing activities which are directed at the Dutch market which promote William Hill. Please remove all marketing materials which may have formed part of any of the aforementioned activities. This includes any marketing activities in the Dutch language, any marketing activities on websites with Dutch TLD URLs or any marketing activity related to Dutch sporting events." casinoscamreport.com;Playerswith Dutch IP addresses are no longer allowed to play poker or any other game offered on William Hill. This move is believed to be a preventive action by the company in lieu of new regulations that are scheduled to take place in 2015.
Dutch players will be able to play on regulated online gambling sites with a Dutch licence sometime next year. This will be a positive change for the players because they were only allowed to play on websites hosted in the Netherlands. Indications are that 2015 will be a year of change for this country's gambling industry.
The plan is to make gambling offers so appealing that Dutch players will not have to look for illegal offerings like they used to. Netherlands online gambling sites were not that good for numerous reasons, so players did not really have much choice but to look for action on 'illegal' sites.
William Hill probably didn't want to lose a chance to gain a Dutch iGaming license next year, so the company didn't ignore the request from the Dutch gaming and betting authority 'Kannspelautoriteit' to eliminate Dutch accounts and to stop accepting new ones.
Several companies did the same, helping the Netherlands on its way to gambling regulation.
