EPT11 London: Quick Day at the Tables Leaves 16 Pretenders for the Main Event Title

With 36 players starting yesterday in the London Main Event and only 20 to go before the play would reach the stop for the day, we did not expect a Day 4 to be long one. And it really wasn’t, as after only few hours of play, final 16 contenders for the EPT11 Main Event title were known.

Sadly, we had to lose some of those that fans would clearly love to cheer on, including PokerStars players Liv Boeree and Fatima Moreira de Melo, Marc-Andre Ladouceur and Mickey Petersen. But even with these departures, the remaining London filed manages to stay quite formidable, only showing once again that this particular stop of European Poker Tour attracts the best of the best.

The tables at the Grand Connaught room when the play resumes today at noon (UK time) will be occupied by the likes of Jake Cody, Pablo Gordillo, Simon Deadman andBenny Spindler. Others include Kevin MacPhee, Jonas Lauck and Kevin Killeen and all of them plus more will no doubt put their best efforts at the tables to reach the coveted title.

But the process that took the field from 36 to 16 was the most favorable for the German player Sebastian Pauli, who bagged the chip lead of 2,674,000. Cody, who will be his closest competitor in terms of counts, sits on 2,291,000 while the Italian Raffaele Sorrentino who started the day as the chip leader will be coming back today third in chips after bagging 1,986,000.

Of the remaining players, Benny Spindler is the only one in the real immediate danger as his stack of 195,000 doesn’t leave much room for errors. However, knowing Spindler’s aggressive style, it is probably safe to assume that he will not be waiting for the poker gods to have mercy with some good cards and will probably go for busto or robusto.

Three players are looking for the repeat success as they already hold an EPT title, and Jake has the best shot at doing it, while Benny has some serious making up to do before he can seriously start considering it. But as always, anything can happen – and that’s why we love it!

EPT11 London coverage continues today with interviews, reports and more and, once again, we do not expect a very long day, but in case players decide to nit it up, we could be in for a longer ride. Either way, with the remaining line-up, it is bound to be an enjoyable one!
